Blue and Gold Proclamation
The proclamation below was passed by the Student Senate and encourages all students, faculty, and staff to wear their blue and gold on Fridays!
BLUE & GOLD PROCLAMATION
ITEM AU31-03
WHEREAS, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has been educating Tennesseans since 1886;
WHEREAS, Chattanoogans have been supporting UTC Athletics since the early 1890’s;
WHEREAS, UTC’s colors have been blue and gold since our union with Grant University in 1899;
WHEREAS, the Mocs have been practicing vigorously to perform magnificently this season;
WHEREAS, On Thursday August 30, 2007, Ron Littlefield, Mayor of the City of Chattanooga, and Claude Ramsey, Mayor of Hamilton County, proclaimed the day “BLUE AND GOLD DAY” for the city of Chattanooga.
WHEREAS, Friday September 3, 2010 is the day before the Mocs Football Program’s opening game against Application State University;
BE IT RESOLVED, THEREFORE, We, the Student Government Association of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga do hereby proclaim Friday September 3, 2010 and every following Friday during the school year,
“BLUE AND GOLD DAY”
On our campus and urge the students and citizens of Chattanooga to continue to support and recognize the contributions of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to our community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the campus administration and student body are informed of this act and a formal copy be maintained by the 192nd Senate of the Student Government Association.

Matthew Kimsey – Newly Appointed Head TISL Delegate
President Andrew Clark recently appointed Matthew Kimsey to lead UTC’s representatives at this year’s Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature.
Not only is Matthew a Political Science major, but he also worked as an intern at the Tennessee Legislature in Nashville during the Spring 2009 semester. Matthew attended TISL last year as a representative from UTC, and President Clark is confident that he will lead UTC’s representatives well this year.

Kelvin Freeman – Newly Appointed Entertainment Chair
During the August 31 Senate meeting, Kelvin Freeman was appointed to the position of Entertainment Chair.
Since Kelvin is an active member of the Association for Campus Entertainment (ACE), he is already well-informed about activities and events on UTC’s campus. As SGA’s Entertainment Chair, Kelvin will now be reporting back to SGA about ACE’s events.

UC Signage Completed
The University Center at UTC now features signage on the 5th Street facade to clearly identify this widely used building. SGA funded this project in the Spring 2010 semester.
A special thank you to Janet Spraker and the Facilities Team for their amazing work on this project!
Executive & Committee Chair Appointments Made
At the first meeting of the Fall 2010 Senate, President Andrew Clark and Vice President Brittany Justice made their Executive Team and Committee Chair appointments. These were confirmed by the Senate.

Student Body Officers Elected
The UTC Student Body elected its three student body officers for the 2010-2011 year.
Newly-elected students Andrew Clark, Brittany Justice, and Isaac Poor will lead the Student Government Association.
Andrew R. Clark, Human Resources Management Major from Manchester, Tennessee, was elected president of the UTC Student Government Association (SGA) for the 2010-11 academic year. Clark will be a senior in fall 2010 and plans to graduate in December 2011.
Following graduation, Clark is considering application to the UTC Masters of Public Administration Program, followed by post graduate work in Economic and Community Development and Higher Education Administration. He said he would like to pursue a career in higher education, specifically “at the greatest institution in America, UTC. I hope to make a career of the wonderful experiences I have now as a Moc.”
Clark’s honors include the 2010 UTC Blue and Gold Award of Excellence; 2009 UTC Leadership Merit Award and the 2007 Sons of the American Revolution Award. He was a workshop presenter at the 2008, 2009, 2010 state conference of the Future Business Leaders of America.
In 2009-10, Clark served as UTC SGA Vice President; in 2008-09 he was named SGA Secretary; in 2008, he was elected President of the Freshman Senate. He has also served as: director of UTC Homecoming; director of Up‘til Dawn, a campus fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital; Chancellor’s Ambassador; UTC Honor Court member; campus Environmental Task Force member and Special Olympics Regional Tournament Site Coordinator.
He graduated from Coffee County Central High School.
Brittany L. Justice of Gallitan, Tennessee, was elected SGA Vice President. She hopes to begin her career with an internship in accounting or finance. Justice expects to graduate in May 2011 with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration: Accounting and Finance.
She is a Beta Gamma Sigma member; served as the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fundraiser Up ‘til Dawn Teams Co-Chair; and she was named to Golden Key International Honour Society and Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Earlier in her collegiate career, Justice served as Vice Chair of the UTC SGA Parking Appeals Committee and she was named UTC Student Government Association Outstanding Senator of the Year.
Justice graduated from Gallatin High School.
Isaac H. Poore of Kenton, Tennessee, will serve as SGA Treasurer. He will be a senior in fall 2010 with plans to graduate in December 2011. He has a double major in Accounting and Finance. His future education plans include a Master in Accountancy degree and a law degree. He would like to continue working for Merrill Lynch and hopes to become a financial adviser.
In SGA, Poore has served as Campus Observations Committee Chair; Social Issues Committee Member; he is a UTC Environmental Task Force Member and he coordinated AIDS testing on campus.
He has been an Echo Staff Member features article writer.
Poore graduated from Union City High School in Union City, Tennessee.
